Care is one of the most rewarding jobs you can do, and you do not need years of experience to start. Many of the best carers we place came from retail, hospitality or cleaning roles and found they had a natural gift for looking after people.
What employers really look for
Kindness, patience and reliability matter more than anything on paper. If you turn up on time, treat people with dignity and are willing to learn, you will do well.
The checks you will need
- Photo ID and the right to work in the UK
- An Enhanced DBS check, which we can arrange for you
- Two references from previous employers or a college tutor
Training on the job
New carers complete the Care Certificate in their first weeks. It covers the basics, from safeguarding and infection control to communication and dignity. You will also learn moving and handling so you can help people safely.
