DBS checks are one of the most important parts of safe recruitment, but the different levels can be confusing. Here is a simple guide.
Basic DBS
Shows unspent convictions and conditional cautions. Suitable for many office, retail and warehouse cleaning roles.
Standard DBS
Shows spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings. Used for some roles with higher responsibility.
Enhanced DBS
Includes everything in a Standard check, plus any relevant information held by local police. Required for work in healthcare, schools and with vulnerable adults.
Enhanced DBS with the adult barred list
Care workers need this level. It also checks whether a person is barred from working with vulnerable adults, which is essential for care homes, home care and supported living.
Our approach
Every candidate placed by The Oak Group has the level of DBS check their role requires. If a candidate does not have one yet, we arrange it before they start.
We place vetted care and cleaning staff across the UK.
